New Material for Heat Exchangers

New Material for Heat Exchangers

Aside from having its own know-how for sanitary gasket manufacture, NICHIAS has also developed a specialized EPDM material for the heat exchanger application. This material was developed to deliver long term durability in extreme temperature and pressure conditions.

EPDM was selected as the material of choice for its use in weather resistance applications which is important for heat exchanger for their functionality. However, the material needed to be improved if it was to withstand target temperatures, UV or ozone exposure.

Conventional EPDM material is not elastic enough. When exposed to high temperature, UV or ozone, the material deteriorates quicker and does not perform well, resulting in fluid leakages. This eventually leads to overall heat exchanger failures which are costly and unwelcome.

NICHIAS developed EPDM technology that can maintain its compression set even at high temperature and as such does not lose its elasticity. It also has a resistance to Nitric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide which conventional materials are not resistant to.

In such a challenging application as the heat exchanger, it is necessary to adopt a gasket that can withstand the harsh environment without causing leakages. NICHIAS’ heat exchanger gasket has been fulfilling those requirements for the past 20 years with our key heat exchanger customers. It is now made available in Europe as well.
